Salons & Day Spas Tips
Tips
of 15 to 25 percent are typical at day spas. Generally, therapists will
get only 40 to 50 percent of the service fee at the most, so they rely on
tips.
Most indoor tanning devices are clamshell-style
beds so you can lie down and relax during your session. However, many
facilities also have stand-up booths, which typically use more bulbs than
beds so you tan faster, reducing the amount of time required. With either
type, new bulbs emit substantially more radiation than old ones, so be sure
to ask whether the exposure schedule has been adjusted to account for the
age of bulbs.
When choosing a day spa, find one which feels comfortable to you and fits
your lifestyle. It's appropriate to ask for a tour to find out if you like
the spa facilities and features. Be sure to pick up a menu of services with
prices ahead of time, so you can make selections that meet your needs,
desires and budget.
People who have never had a massage often ask, "Do I have to take my clothes
off?" The answer is, "yes," for most total body massages. As a general rule,
you disrobe in private while the therapist is out of the room. Then you
climb under a large towel, sheet or bath blanket on a covered massage table
before the therapist returns. During the massage, only the part of your body
being worked on is exposed. However, your comfort level is the most
important factor and you certainly can wear your underwear if you want to.
