There's no need to
drive all the way to New Bern to visit the Social Security office. A
representative from the office is available at the Leon Mann Jr.
Enrichment Center for Senior Services on Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 2:30
PM. The representative takes lunch from noon until 1 PM. No appointment
is necessary.
The North Carolina Division of Aging and
Adult Services has a wealth of information for retirees and those
considering retiring in the state. From moving assistance, long-term care
and help with finances to employment, home and community services, this is
a great resource. Call (919) 733-3983 or visit the website
www.ncgov.com/ToLive.aspx

Want to meet other retirees for fun and
friendship? Aside from the usual volunteering, church and employment
venues, take up a new activity altogether. Senior centers offer many
opportunities to get acquainted while keeping fit, trying different
activities and having a good time. Check them out (see our list in this
chapter).
Maybe you're one of the many retirees who
decides to start a small business here. Resources abound to help you from
the ground up. We recommend Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE),
4010 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, (910) 452-5395; and the Council for
Entrepreneurial Development (CED), 404 N. Third Street, Wilmington,
(910) 232-2471.
