For the
latest New Hanover County public transportation schedules, go to
WAVE Transit
Authority at www.wavetransit.com.
In
Monday's Local & State section of the Star-News, you can find maps
and other travel advisory information including construction delays, lane
closures, resurfacing and other traffic information.
While passenger trains no longer come and go from Wilmington, you can
still take the train for business or pleasure as long as you don't mind
traveling to Raleigh, Fayetteville or Charlotte to hop on. For routes
and schedules, call Amtrak's reservation office at 800-USA-RAIL
(872-7245) or go to www.amtrak.com.
If you're in for a casual, enjoyable bicycle ride, load your bike onto a
carrier and travel to one of the popular state parks or beach
communities. Or park the car at a ferry dock, and bike onto a ferry. If
you take the ferry from Fort Fisher to Southport, you can take a
bicycle tour of the charming village of Southport. You can also take
your bike on the Southport-Bald Head Island ferry and spend the day on
beautiful Bald Head Island, where no cars are allowed.
Remember
"Drive Smart. Do Your Part." in work zones. Following these work zone
safety driving tips can help save lives, including your own:
- STAY ALERT!
- Expect the unexpected.
- Pay close attention!
- Don't tailgate.
- Limit distractions.
- Don't speed.
