Daytrips Tips

Late spring and early fall is gorgeous here in southeastern North Carolina and is a perfect time to take a jaunt up or down the coast. Tourist traffic has diminished significantly, but most attractions and shops are open and eager to see your smiling faces.

Take advantage of discount coupons found in a variety of tourist publications, attractions books, literature racks at visitors centers, hotels, chambers of commerce and even in local phone books. Many excellent deals are available for a host of restaurants, accommodations, activities and events.

With a little ingenuity, bicycle enthusiasts can combine daytrips and fun rides. For those with an adventuresome spirit and physical stamina, riding the back roads to visit places of interest can be accomplished by using a North Carolina gazetteer, area-specific maps and bikeways information (see our Getting Here, Getting Around chapter).

Remember to take along your Insiders' Guide when you're wandering about and check it for new things to do — it's a great resource. Along with this book about N.C.'s Southern Coast and Wilmington, you can also find The Insiders' Guide to N.C.'s Central Coast and New Bern and The Insiders' Guide to Myrtle Beach. You can purchase them in local bookstores or by going online to www.insiders.com and clicking on the area of your choice.
