This rugged and almost legendary game has
been gaining momentum recently in the greater Wilmington area. New Hanover
County is one of the few counties in North Carolina that offers lacrosse
at most public middle and high schools. UNC-Wilmington has both men's and
women's lacrosse club teams open to students, faculty and staff. Play is
on the campus recreation fields in fall and spring; for information call
the UNCW Coordinator of Sports Clubs at (910) 962-7758.
Cape Fear Academy Lacrosse Camp This highly successful summer day
camp is for boys in grades 3 through 8 in two age divisions; it runs for one
week in June. Three-hour sessions are directed by the academy's lacrosse
coaching staff. Instruction emphasizes fundamentals of basic stick work,
rules and team play. Each camper is drafted onto a team for a final
round-robin tournament.
Cape Fear Lacrosse Club The Cape Fear Lacrosse Club is open
to men and women age 18 and older who are interested in playing and
promoting the game of lacrosse. Experience is preferred but not necessary
and you may join the club at any time. Dues are $50 per year. Call Beau
McCaffray at the number listed above for more information. |
