Historic Downtown Wilmington
|
|
If you love whiling away the hours browsing for
antiques, you'll love downtown Wilmington and the New Castle Street Art and
Antique District. Located between Fifth and Seventh Streets on Castle, the
District offers a concentration of many shops featuring art, antiques,
flowers, framing, restaurants, home furnishings, nautical items, oriental
rugs and expert design services. This once-thriving elite shopping area has
come back to life with boutique shops and major local retailers. You can
even bring your items and have them appraised.
Start your shopping day with breakfast or take a
break for lunch at one of the District's many and varied eateries such as
Hall's Tropicana Restaurant, a neighborhood favorite since
1920, or The Jester's Java for great coffee and snacks.
Then shop away at Acorn Attic, Michael Moore Antiques, Adams on
Castle Antiques, Newcastle Antique Center, Buckets of Bulbs, Oriental Rugs
at Newcastle, Pattersonbehn Framing, Wilmingon Gallery at Newcastle, Turkish
Cachet, Time at Last, Susie Q's, Sea Cargo Nauticals and
Castle Keep Antiques. Look for more options in early 2008 when The
Village at Newcastle, currently under construction, opens. It will feature
six new shops and 14 luxury condominiums.
Front Street also offers a variety of
interesting shops, including Antiques of Old Wilmington and
Eddie's Antiques & Collectibles. To guide you through the
more than 250,000 square feet of Wilmington's antiques and collectibles
stores, pick up a copy of A Guide to Greater Wilmington Antique Shops
leaflet available at any of the antiques stores, Greater Wilmington
Chamber of Commerce and the Cape Fear Convention & Visitor's Bureau. |
