Brunswick County
Beaches and Vicinity
Southport
|
The quaint charm of Southport and the
quiet of Oak Island's small, coastal community belie the area's growth.
Recent increases in residential and commercial construction and development,
plus the opening of Wal-Mart on N.C. Highway 211 between the two
communities, herald a changing era for this region, and the growing number
of year-round retail businesses is a reflection of this trend.
Some of the shops listed here are found within an easy
walk in Southport's picturesque historic district. Leave the car parked on
the street and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the town's waterfront and main
thoroughfare, particularly Howe and Moore streets. You'll find gift and
jewelry shops, restaurants, art galleries, clothing stores and a maritime
museum. If you're interested in antiques markets, see the Southport listings
in the Antiques section at the end of this chapter.
