Newspapers and JournalsBrunswick Beacon A weekly community newspaper published on Thursdays, the
Brunswick Beacon has won dozens of awards during the past decade
for advertising and editorial content. It covers and is distributed to all
of Brunswick County, with particular emphasis on the southwestern portion of
the coast. The Beacon is available through subscription, retail
outlets and news racks throughout Brunswick County. Greater Diversity News Greater Diversity News is a
state-wide diversity-focused publication based in Wilmington, with
additional distribution throughout North Carolina. Published weekly on
Thursday, it is a subscription-based periodical and can be purchased at
certain news racks. Greater Wilmington Business Journal Greater Wilmington Business Journal
is the region's best source for local business news and information covering
New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties. Regular features include news
about commercial and residential real estate, news columns focusing on other
local industries (such as healthcare, technology and film) as well as
profiles of business leaders and up-and-coming entrepreneurs. Starting in
February 2008, the Business Journal will be published every other
Friday. The newspaper is mailed to subscribers and also for sale at Port
City Java locations. The Island Gazette Published weekly on Wednesdays since 1978, The Island
Gazette is a well-established source of local news, sports, features
and real estate in southern New Hanover County, with an emphasis on Carolina
Beach and Pleasure Island. Copies are available in news racks throughout
the Wilmington area or by subscription. Lumina News Published every Thursday, Lumina News reports
the weekly activities of Wrightsville Beach and its surrounding waterfront
communities. From local government news and school events to sports and
fishing, each issue is information-packed. Available by subscription and
at more than 400 locations in and around Wrightsville Beach, Lumina
News is free. Mundo Latino Founded seven years ago, Mundo Latino is
distributed throughout eastern North Carolina and serves as a major
communication link for the state's significant Latino population. Mundo
Latino is published bi-weekly, the first and third Thursday of each
month, and in it you will mainly find local, national and world news along
with sports, editorials, entertainment, business, autos, health, fashion,
decoration, music, cinema, gossip and much more. |

Star-News is the only major
daily newspaper along the southern coastal region of North Carolina. Owned
by The New York Times, Star-News covers national, international,
state and local news. Many breaking news stories may be found first at
StarNewsOnline.com. Regular in-print features cover regional politics,
community events, arts, sports, weather, real estate, the local film
industry, business news and more. Break-out interactive web log, forum,

Supplements to the daily newspaper include Neighbors,
community sections published every Wednesday for New Hanover and Pender

Fact Book for New Hanover County contains a wealth of intriguing
facts, figures and community data especially of interest to visitors and
newcomers. In addition, Star-News publishes Wilmington Magazine,
a high-quality, glossy publication that covers the area in an in-depth
manner. Newspaper subscribers have the option to receive all editions,
weekends and holidays or just the Saturday and Sunday editions. Home
delivery is available, and the newspaper may be found in news racks and
stores throughout Wilmington and North Carolina's southern coast. The State Port Pilot Covering eastern Brunswick County in the Southport-Oak
Island sphere, including Bald Head Island, Boiling Spring Lakes, St. James
and Caswell Beach, this award-winning newspaper features regional and
community news, special event coverage, local sports, feature articles and
more. The Pilot is available by subscription or in news racks
throughout its coverage area every Wednesday. Topsail Advertiser This weekly community newspaper covers the island news, local school
sports, special events and happenings in the Topsail area. The
Advertiser is free and available in most area shops. The Topsail Voice This weekly newspaper covers Pender County news, school sports and
special events. The Topsail Voice is available by home delivery and
it can also be found in news racks throughout the area. |

The Wilmington Journal Founded in 1927 as The Cape Fear Journal, this
weekly began as the offspring of R. S. Jervay Printers and describes itself
as the voice and mirror of the African-American community in New Hanover,
Brunswick, Pender, Onslow and Columbus counties. The name changed to The
Wilmington Journal in the 1940s. It is available each Thursday at news
racks throughout the city or by subscription.

MagazinesEncore Magazine Hailed as Wilmington's alternative voice for more than 20
years, Encore is the prime alternative weekly of the Port City.
Featuring everything regarding area arts and entertainment, political
commentary and cartoons, fiction writing and an extensive calendar of
events, the magazine hails a staff of all local writers, with the exception
of syndicated columnist Chuck Shepherd, whose "News of the Weird" is only
one of many reasons folks reach for the paper every Wednesday. Locals look
to Encore for the most creative writings on what's happening in
dining, theater, music and film. Distributed in racks from Wilmington to
Wrightsville Beach, Pleasure Island to Southport Encore always
keeps its readers active and culturally engaged. Focus on
the Coast Focus on the Coast focuses
on where to eat, where to shop and where to play at the coast. This upscale,
full-color, digest-size magazine is a connection to the arts, entertainment,
dining and culture and contains features, columns, reviews and previews on
people and places in the Cape Fear region. You can pick up a complimentary
copy in more than 400 area locations or by subscription. North Brunswick Magazine-NBM North Brunswick Magazine is
a glossy, full-color lifestyle magazine published specifically for the
residents and businesses of northern Brunswick County, where growth seems to
be affecting changes in the blink of an eye. It features history, local
information, events and human-interest stories. Published four times a year
and distributed via mail to north Brunswick County residents, local
businesses and advertisers, this magazine is available as well to
subscribers outside of the area.
Health Matters Health Matters is the
area's best medical resource for both the medical community and the general
public. It includes a helpful directory of physicians, dentists and
health-care providers as well as health-related information about the latest
technology and treatments available in the region. The Pelican Post Serving the Southport-Oak Island area since 1993, this
small regional magazine is crammed with information and interesting tidbits
for visitors and locals. Regular features include a calendar of events, a
listing of area attractions, a chart for daily tides, the Southport-Fort
Fisher Ferry schedule, an area map, recipes, a dining guide, Sidewalks Local
Real Estate Guide and more. The covers feature works of art by local
artists, and local authors contribute interesting stories about the area as
well. The Pelican Post is distributed free throughout the Cape Fear
region monthly from April through November, with a holiday issue for
December/January and a winter issue for February/March. It is also available
by subscription — 10 issues for $15 per year.
This monthly magazine is unquestionably the best local
source of information about movie making in the Carolinas. "Production
Notes", "EUE Screen Gems Studios Clips", and "News & Notes" are regular
columns packed with information about what's going on in the area. To get
the scoop on film-related websites, classes, workshops, groups and meetings,
turn to "Lagniappe", which also has a section on film-festival news. Other
features include business profiles, reports from regional production
facilities, celebrity interviews and film-production feature articles plus a
wide range of industry-related ads. Reel Carolina is available by
subscription or free in racks across both Carolinas. Southport nc Southport nc is a
full-color, coffee-table magazine covering Southport and greater Brunswick
County. It includes beautiful local photographs, interviews featuring local
residents, daytrip opportunities, history, writing by students of South
Brunswick High School, happenings around town, a calendar of events and
more. Published bimonthly, the magazine is available by subscription or can
be found for your reading pleasure at locations around Brunswick County. The Beat Dedicated to reporting the music news of Wilmington and
the southeastern North Carolina coastal region, The Beat is free.
This is the absolute best publication for finding out who, when, where and
what's going on musically. Look for it in cafes, bars, lounges and anywhere

produced publication for and about women of all ages. With an easy style
and airy format, here's a magazine you'll read cover-to-cover, clip, save
and share. Content of each issue centers around an overall theme, such as
traditions, passions or back to school. Regular features include fashion,
home decor, humor, book reviews, art, health and legal, financial and
relationship issues. wilma! is published monthly and distributed
free throughout the greater Wilmington area. Wrightsville Beach Magazine Available monthly, Wrightsville Beach Magazine
is full of informative and entertaining features, articles and departments
covering life, people and events in and around the beach. Subjects range
from current happenings to history and profiles. Regular departments
include "Beach Bites", tide tables and photo contest winners. Pick up a
copy of this free magazine at more than 400 locations in Wrightsville

WSFX-26, Fox This station's strength is its Fox affiliation,
featuring Fox news and entertainment programming. WSFX also carries local
news on the only 10 PM broadcast in the market. |

WILM-TV is Wilmington's CBS affiliate and broadcasts on
channel 10 (channel 12 for Time-Warner Cable viewers and channel 16 for
Charter Cable viewers and also available in HD on channel 914 on Time
Warner and AMTC cable). Regional news and major local events are broadcast
through the CBS Raleigh affiliate, WRAL-TV. |

UNC-TV 39, PBS Quality national and local public television programming
is the hallmark of UNC-TV. Fans of the BBC enjoy delightful offerings in
drama, news and comedy. The station's yearly pledge drive is
enthusiastically supported by southeastern North Carolinians. UNC-TV has
made a transition to digital television, which allows viewers to receive
four channels instead of one. The other three channels are UNC-KD a
full-time children's channel, UNC-NC dedicated to local happenings in NC,
and UNC-ED an educational channel of high school and college courses. |

WWAY-TV 3, ABC ABC–affiliated WWAY NewsChannel 3 is another of
Wilmington's major television stations broadcasting throughout the
southeastern coastal region. WWAY offers full national and regional news
and complete meteorological forecasts.

Cable Cable television and high-speed Internet
access services are available throughout southeastern North Carolina's
coastal region from two primary sources. Time Warner Cable,
(910) 763-4638 or (800) 222-8921, covers Wilmington and much of Brunswick
County, including Oak Island, Holden Beach and Ocean Isle Beach.
Charter Communications, (866) 472-2200, provides service to
Pleasure Island (Carolina Beach and Kure Beach), the southern end of New
Hanover County and parts of Pender County, including Topsail Island.
Alternative cable providers available in Brunswick County are
Atlantic Telephone, covering Sunset Beach, (910) 754-4311 or (888)
367-2862, which offers DSL Internet access, and Tele-Media Cable
Communications Inc., (800) 533-7048, which does not offer Internet
service at this time.
