A love for fiction led Emily Gorman-Fancy to Wilmington for a master of fine arts in creative writing at UNCW. While there she wrote a novel and a collection of short stories, both works in progress. Her background in journalism includes contributing more than 200 articles to national, state and local publications. She has been honored to receive recognition for her writing, including a William Randolph Hearst Award and a Reader's Digest scholarship. Emily lives in the historic Sunset Park neighborhood with her husband, Ben, baby daughter, Ava, and black Lab, Lulu.EGF 042208


ZachHanner

Zach Hanner is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a major in performance studies. A former editor at citysearch.com, Zach has contributed to Durham’s Independent Weekly, the Wilmington Star-News, the Myrtle Beach Sun-News and a number of other music and entertainment-related publications. A professional actor as well, Zach has worked in the Wilmington and New York areas for the past 14 years, appearing in Forrest Gump, The Patriot, Domestic Disturbance, Black Knight and Runaway Jury as well as numerous commercial and television projects. He writes and directs children’s theater for Wilmington’s Journey Productions and is an active contributor to the Cucalorus Film Festival. Ukulele player and front man for Wilmington’s Hawaiian band Da Howlies, Zach also plays bass in the surf guitar band The Noseriders. An avid surfer, both styles of music complement his love for the ocean. Zach lives on the gorgeous Intracoastal Waterway with his wife, Dagmar, and their son, Beck. Their dogs, Violet and Maestro, provide endless entertainment and their bothersome cat, Veronica, does not.ZH 04-17-08


KateWalshKate Walsh lives to travel. Some of her favorite adventures include kayaking North Carolina's coastal waterways, riding her bike from Paris to the Mediterranean Sea,  swimming in the Amazon River with pink dolphins, and piloting a houseboat down the Lot River in France. Kate wrote, produced and directed television for 20 years and is currently pursuing her master of fine arts degree in creative nonfiction. Kate has lived in Surf City for 15 years.KW 04-18-08
 


RebeccaPierre

Rebecca Pierre has years of experience in business writing, including package labeling, job descriptions and procedures, personnel, volunteer and resident newsletters, personnel and volunteer handbooks, employee surveys and a weekly column on volunteerism in a local daily newspaper. Rebecca began writing freelance after she moved to Oak Island in 1992. Her writing has been published in periodicals including the Pelican Post, the Independent, Focus on the Coast and Attaché Magazine, the in-flight magazine for USAirways. Her experience writing award-winning poetry brings discipline, an economy of words and vivid descriptions to her work. Her first book of poetry, A Mystery of Moon, was published in the spring of 2005.RP 04-18-08
