Walk in any direction in the heart of Ocracoke, and soon you'll notice little signs that point down narrow lanes to marvelous galleries and shops. Some are tucked into the woods, others are in garages or little buildings behind artists' houses. Each one is a treasure in itself.

Bargain-hunting alert: off-season on the Outer Banks is positively the best time to shop. You'll find incredible deals on everything from swimsuits to sunglasses to surfboards, and best of all...there are no crowds.
