Thanksgiving is just not complete without the annual 5K Turkey Trot in Duck. Sponsored by Advice 5¢, the race begins at 9:00 Thanksgiving morning. Since this race is so popular, pre-registration is strongly recommended. Call (252) 255-1050 a week before Thanksgiving to register.

The oldest continuous hang-gliding competition in the country is held each May at the 420-acre Jockey's ridge State Park. Kitty Hawk Kites sponsors the Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular & Air Games.

May 2003 marked the 20th year of the Nags Head Woods Preserve’s 5K Run. This run attracts an enormous number of participants and is held on the Nags Head Woods’ grounds. To register, call (252) 441-2525.

Yes, there is an Outer Banks Triathlon. Held since 1983 on Roanoke Island, triathlon contestants swim .6 miles, bike 15 miles, and run 3.1 miles. Call (252) 480-0500 for more information.

The Sandbox Skate Park at sea Holly Square on the Beach Road in Kill Devil Hills has the only skateboard ramp on the Outer Banks. If your teenager is tired of skateboarding on our flat terrain, a visit to the ramp might send his or her spirits soaring.
