Accommodations Tips

Sometimes you can find a good deal on a cottage rental if a reservation-holder needs to cancel. If you're looking for summer accommodations and you haven't made prior reservations, ask to be notified in the event of a cancellation.

When inclement weather keeps you off the beach, check out Glazin' Go-Nuts. At this wonderful studio in the Cookes Corner Shopping Center in Kill Devil Hills, you can paint your own pottery and have it fired and glazed for you. You'll find everything from holiday ornaments to coffee mugs and pet dishes, plus suggestions to spark your creative expression.

Glenn Eure's Ghost Fleet Gallery often hosts poetry readings, visiting authors, and productions of local plays. Ask Glenn or Pat about what they have lined up, (252) 441-6584.

If you can get away from the office, but not the work, Mail Boxes, Etc. at The Marketplace in Southern Shores has weekly mailbox rentals, plus such office services as copying, faxing, and overnight shipping.

Even though Memorial Day through Labor Day is our peak season, Easter and Thanksgiving are growing increasingly popular. Rates are lower than during the summer, and you can gather the entire family together in a big vacation home.

If you can't bear to leave your four-legged companions at home and all pet-friendly accommodations are booked, consider boarding your dog or cat at one of our veterinary hospitals. There are several on the Outer Banks with fine facilities and pet-loving staffs.
