David Stratton

Preparing for his first trip to Las Vegas, David Stratton packed hardback novels, swim trunks, sunscreen and a tennis racket. His more savvy friends brought the clothes on their backs and bail money. The world of contrast he found in Las Vegas during the 1970s justified everything they brought and much more.

From the sublime to the exotic, from outrageous to bewildering, Las Vegas has remained a fascinating anomaly for David, who has lived here since 1989, when he relocated from California to accept the features editor position at the Las Vegas SUN.

Although born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands, David spent most of his adult life in California. Before moving to Las Vegas, he worked as a writer and editor for a magazine in San Bernardino County and later as a beat reporter and features editor for a daily newspaper in the High Desert.

In addition to magazine and newspaper work, David has served as a staff writer, editor and graphic designer for a publisher of gaming books and as graphic designer for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. He also had a tour of duty as a publicity director at a Las Vegas gaming resort.

Most recently, David's written two other Las Vegas guidebooks and contributed to three others; he's also co-authored a guidebook to Arizona. He currently writes a restaurant column for the Review-Journal newspaper and contributes to numerous other publications, including Where Las Vegas, Gaming Today and Flyer, National Airlines' in-flight magazine.
