Enjoy the sights and sounds of Pamlico
County's waterways by joining the annual Pamlico Paddle, which combines
friends and fun on the water with explorations of local waterways by
canoe and kayak. Paddlers of all experience levels are welcome to take

In his latest book, Living Waters, Oriental resident and
photographer Ben Casey tracks the Trent River from its beginning as a
small stream in Lenoir County to where it empties into the Neuse River
at New Bern. Casey's first book, All in One River, follows the
Neuse River from Falls Dam to the Pamlico Sound. Both books are
available at local bookstores and gift shops.
Many businesses in Oriental close or shorten their hours during the winter.

Construction is underway on widening a 14-mile stretch of N.C. Highway 55 in
Craven and Pamlico counties from two to four lanes, with a center turn lane.
The road will be widened between an area just past Bridgeton and the bridge
exits, all the way to Bayboro. So far, 5 miles of the new highway have been
completed.
