Every Saturday morning at 6 AM on WCTI-12, retired New Bern-Craven County head librarian Elinor Hawkins hosts Telestory Time, a delightful show which celebrates stories and art.

Children under the age of 16 are now required by North Carolina law to wear a helmet when riding their bikes on any public road, bike path or other public right-of-way.

Rainy day? A trip to Rollerland, 3502 Neuse Boulevard, (252) 633-3804, may be just what cooped-up kids need to expend some energy. Regular and in-line skate rentals are available, as is a snack bar and game room. Call and ask about Rollerland's birthday packages.

Hook A Kid On Golf is a national golf skills development program that
offers youth ages 8-13 a complete introduction to the sport of golf. The program is designed for children who have never played golf and normally would not have the opportunity to do so. Participants take part in a week-long introductory clinic, and receive a Hook A Kid On Golf shirt, a set of golf clubs, golf balls and other golf accessories. The program is offered during the summer each year by New Bern Parks & Recreation, (252) 639-2902.

Junior golfers ages 5-14 will enjoy practicing their swing and other skills at River Bend Golf & Country Club's annual Junior Golf Camp, held annually in June. Participants test their skills in a tournament at week's end, and everyone takes home a trophy. For information, call (252) 638-2819. 

Courts Plus features a kids' Sports Summer Camp that's packed with fun. Weekly sessions are offered throughout the summer, with racquetball, basketball, swimming, soccer, volleyball and more. Non-members are welcome, and parents can either sign up their junior sportsmen for the entire summer or per week as needed. Call (252) 633-2221.MH 11-02-07

New Bern Civic Theatre, (252) 634-9057, hosts a popular two-week Children's Acting and Technical Workshop during the summer.

The RiverArts Creative Choral Experience offers children grades 2 through 8 an opportunity to sing -- auditions are held every fall after the start of the school year. For information, call Karen Plaster at (252) 224-0678.
