Getting Here, Getting Around Tips

Tourism is big business on the Crystal Coast. It represents an estimated 20 percent of Carteret County’s jobs and a $230 million annual income.

Gulls following ferries always expect a handout. Ferry officials ask that you feed them only from the back of the ferry. Human food is not good for sea gulls, and, besides, your fellow passengers will not appreciate the gull droppings.

Crystal Coast beaches face south rather than east from the southern point of Core Banks at Cape Lookout to the west end of Bogue Banks. This rare East Coast geography means that the sun rises and sets over the ocean here, and the north wind calms the sea close to the beaches.TN 09-24-07
