Getting Around Tips
Gulls always
follow the ferries looking for handouts. While it might be fun to feed gulls
following the ferry, your fellow passengers might not appreciate the
droppings on their vehicles — or on their heads. If you must feed them,
ferry officials ask that you feed them only from the back of the ferry.
Crystal
Coast beaches face south rather than east from the southern point of Core
Banks at Cape Lookout to the west end of Bogue Banks. This rare East Coast
geography means that the sun rises and sets over the ocean, and the north
wind calms the sea close to the beaches.
Tourism
is big business on the Crystal Coast. It represents an estimated 20 percent
of Carteret County’s jobs and a $230 million annual income.
