Gold's Gym is part of a nationwide franchise and has been flexing its muscles in the fitness community for five years. The gym offers unlimited mutual use of its facilities for those with annual or bi-annual memberships and a travel exchange program for other Gold's Gyms across the country. Memberships vary in price and can be arranged by the week or month. Guest visits are $10, or just $5 when accompanied by a member. Equipment includes Life Fitness, Hammer Strength and a wide variety of cardiovascular equipment and world-class group exercise programs, including body pump and body flow, as well as a wide variety of free weights. Gold's offers free child care for ages 6 months to 11 years, tanning facilities and a pro shop with apparel, supplements and smoothies. Gym hours are Monday through Thursday from 5 AM to 10 PM, Friday from 5 AM to 8 PM, Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.TN 12-17-07

This is a popular place with many city residents and guests. Members have use of the fully equipped weight room, loaded with free weights and machines, a gym with a full-size basketball court, and a game room with pool and Ping-Pong tables. The center also offers floor aerobics classes and yoga classes. Managed by the city's Parks and Recreation Department, this facility is likely the area's most affordable fitness center. Individual rates are $30 for city residents and $40 for non-residents. Family rates are $45 and $70. There are also special rates for use of the gym and game room, and those vary from $7 to $25 per year. High school and college students 16 years of age and older, regardless of where they live, can join the gym for $20 per year, and senior citizens age 55 and older from any location can use the gym free of charge. The gym operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 1 to 6 PM. It is closed Sunday.TN 12-10-07

This large fitness center offers a holistic approach to family fitness. The center was recently renovated and has a knowledgeable staff ready to assist members and guests. It offers a fully equipped weight room, Nautilus and fitness equipment, racquetball courts and an indoor walking/running track. Many group classes are offered, including karate, yoga, water aerobics and floor aerobics. Sports Center has a tanning salon, stair climbers, treadmills, spinning cycles, basketball/volleyball courts, an Olympic-sized outdoor pool and an indoor pool. The center also offers a snack bar and child-care services. Daily and weekly rates are available, as are short-term monthly memberships. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 5 AM to 10 PM, Friday from 5 AM to 9 PM, Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 1 to 6 PM.TN 12-10-07

Curves for Women is part of a nationwide franchise, although each gym is locally owned and operated. Join one Curves and you can get a travel pass to use at any Curves in the country or aboard. Workouts are based on 30-minute total body circuit training with a combination of aerobics and strength training. All equipment is hydraulic to be easy on your joints. Individuals rotate from upper-body workout equipment to lower-body workout equipment with recovery/spring board stations in between. The workouts are done based on time and are fast moving. There is a membership fee and a one-time sign-up fee.TN 12-10-07

This fitness club offers a full line of Nautilus workout equipment, a free-style weight room with quick-change collars, treadmills, EB Power Ride bikes and much more. The gym offers a variety of classes, including water and floor aerobics, spin classes, yoga, body pump and more. It also includes a 25-foot, heated junior Olympic swimming pool, a steam room, tanning beds and a large, tiled hot tub spa. Memberships include an enrollment fee and then $45 per month for a single person, $50 for a couple and $60 for a family. There are student discounts as well. The center is open to residents and nonresidents, offering a full-size gym for indoor tennis, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Classes vary and often include aerobics — both step and step-free — classes, karate, Pilates and yoga. The facility also features a weight room, a game room with Ping-Pong and card tables, restrooms with showers and a fully equipped kitchen. Space for meetings and parties is available. Outside you will find tennis courts, a basketball court and a children's play area. Rates are $5 per day or $20 for a week of fun. Annual memberships are also available for Emerald Isle residents and non-residents. The center’s hours are Monday through Friday 8 AM to 9 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM. Open seven days a week, this full-service wellness center takes its summer visitors into account. The club offers an indoor, 25-yard competition heated pool, hot tub and steam room, an indoor full-size basketball court, and a fully equipped weight room. Classes of all varieties, including Pilates, yoga and reformer sessions as well as water and floor aerobics, offer members a variety of workout choices. Licensed professionals ensure that quality guidance and instruction is given to members. Day passes are available for $12 per day or $100 for 15 visits.
