On the banks of Pamlico Sound, the Driftwood includes a motel, restaurant, campground and gift shop, but locals refer to all those things at the complex by simply saying "at the Driftwood." The restaurant is known far and wide for the weekend prime rib special. Other entrees feature all types of seafood, prepared any way you like, including fresh crab meat, shrimp salad, five seafood combination plates and soft-shell crabs. You'll also enjoy chicken, barbecue, pasta and vegetarian dishes and a children's menu. A full salad bar is offered, and the homemade lemon meringue pie is wonderful. Lunch is offered in the summer months. Beer and wine are available, or you can bring your own liquor and they'll provide the setups. The restaurant is beside the Cedar Island-Ocracoke ferry terminal. The Driftwood Restaurant usually closes in late January, but sometimes remains open through February. It is best to call to check the status during the winter. For information about the motel, see our Accommodations chapter; for information about the campground, see our Camping chapter. TN 10-23-07
