actually sits on pilings over the beautiful waters of Bogue Sound. The
restaurant's origins go back to The Atlantic Cafe, which Headen Ballou
(later known as Capt. Bill) opened on the corner of Arendell and Ninth
Streets in 1938. One year later, he moved his restaurant down the street
to the block between 7th and 8th Streets (still on Arendell Street) and
reopened his restaurant naming it the Morehead Café . In 1941, Mr.
Ballou purchased Piner’s Fish House on the Morehead City Waterfront and
converted the fish house into a restaurant , which he called The
Waterfront Café and Fish Market. He later changed the name to Capt.
Bill’s Waterfront Restaurant. Today owners John and Diane Poag continue
to operate a family business. Here you will find fresh local seafood,
homemade desserts and wonderful views of the waterway. Dinners begin
with such appetizers as homemade hot crab dip or buffalo shrimp, she
crab soup or Core Sound clam chowder, or a salad. Entrees highlight
seafood — sauteed, baked, broiled, fried or grilled — as well as steaks
and chicken dishes. Lunch specials are featured each day. A local
favorite is the famous conch stew served each Wednesday and Saturday.
Dessert favorites are the Down East Lemon Pie and the 12-inch Hot Fudge
Sundae. Capt. Bill's is open daily for lunch and dinner and offers a
good selection of beer and wine. They also cater events or host special
occasions in their new waterfront banquet room. CC Ralwiggies CC Ralwiggies is the place to go for a feel-good, and good for you,

service with salad platters, hot soups, salad by the pound and platters
for events of all types, and they can cater any occasion. Everything
prepared is MSG free because, as the menu states — "You are what you
eat. Be great!" |

Mrs. Willis' Restaurant Mrs. Willis' Restaurant has been serving home-cooked
meals since 1949. The restaurant actually began in the home of "Ma"
Willis as a barbecue and chicken take-out place specializing in mini
lemon pies. Customers ate right in the kitchen. In 1956 the restaurant
moved into the garage, which is the front of today's restaurant, and
additions have been made through the years. We recommend the clam
chowder for starters and then the prime rib — for the money, it's one of
the best around. Other entrees include the seafood combination plate,
chicken livers, pork chops, hamburger steak, stuffed flounder, rib eyes,
frog legs, grilled fish, chicken and roast beef. You'll also find plenty
of fresh vegetables. Mrs. Willis' offers specials every day and night
and accommodates groups of any size. Lunch is served Sunday and Tuesday
through Friday and dinner is served seven days a week. The restaurant is
open year round. |

In 1938 Ted Garner and Tony Seamon, both now deceased, opened a
waterfront seafood market in a building rented for $5.50 per week, The
name Sanitary Fish Market was chosen by the partners to project their
compliance. When 12 stools were set up at the counter, the first seafood
