Safe Harbor Farm is a non-profit organization
that rescues dogs and cats and sponsors kindness clinics for caretakers of
needy animals. Clinics include low-cost spay-neuter clinics run entirely
by volunteers and donations. Those eligible include low-income families,
families with three or more pets, and certified rescue groups. The group
also monitors colonies of cats and offers vaccine clinics and heartworm
clinics. Donations are always needed. |

Carteret County Humane Society and Animal
Shelter offers a variety of services and adoptions. Staff can handle
such things as heartworm and parvo testing, as well as cremation
services. Moderate adoption prices include vaccination, deworming, spay
or neutering certificates, choice of collar and ID tag. They also offer
special prices for seniors who are adopting animals. Donations of such
things as pet food, cat litter and cleaning supplies are always needed. |

Pet Adoption and Welfare Society (PAWS) offers
pet adoption and fostering programs, as well as spay-neuter clinics.
Proceeds from the group's thrift shop at 1211 Bridges Street in Morehead
City are used for rescue and foster programs, to help with adoptions and
to raise money for a shelter. |

cats. Owned by two experienced vet assistants, the service focuses on
all the extras. Dogs enjoy a large playground, complete with a shelter,
a pool and water games, where they can romp with their new dog friends
and staff. They are treated to toys, snacks and fluffy beds for
napping. All dogs and cats visiting Bed and Biscuit Pet Care must be up
to date on vaccines, and dogs over the age of eight months must be
spayed or neutered. |

This is a full-service veterinarian hospital offering all types of

and all-natural pet foods. When your special pet dies, Lynaire offers
crematory services and can return the pet to the owner, to the vet's

Walking and running with a dog is a popular
pastime along the coast. Dog owners need to be aware there is a leash
law in towns and on beaches, including the beaches of Cape Lookout
National Seashore. Please beware that most beaches and incorporated town
areas also require you to clean up after your pets. Even if it is not
the law, dog owners should make it their responsibility to clean up
after their pets. The Beaufort
historic district and waterfront are popular walking and running spots
for dog lovers, and special poop scoop bags are provided at a few spots
along the Beaufort waterfront. The Morehead City waterfront and downtown
areas are also great places to walk and run with your four-legged
friend.
