Boonedocks Guest House |
|||||||
|
The Aft Cabin at Boonedocks
Marina, just minutes from Oriental, is a comfortable 600 square feet and
accommodates two adults gracefully, according to innkeeper Paul Fairbank. A
tall, built-in, oversized window seat affords a cozy reading nook and can
sleep one or two children. Outdoors, guests enjoy the large screened-in
porch with woodsy Adirondack chairs, bistro table and a view of Broad Creek,
while indoors this cedar-shingled "little cabin in the woods" boasts all the
modern conveniences, including satellite TV, wireless Internet, heat/air,
range, microwave and coffeemaker. The innkeeper says guests should bring
their sense of adventure and desire to relax, but leave the cookware and
linens at home, because the cabin is essentially a European-style
housekeeping cottage. The marina provides practically everything a guest
needs, including cookware, dinnerware, bed and bath linens, board games,
good books and even a DVD player. Paddlers will appreciate a handy put-in on
Broad Creek; two kayaks and a canoe are available for those who don't bring
their own. The marina charges a $10 "sinking fund" fee for a full day's use
of the small boats. Broad Creek provides many miles of serene, flat-water
paddling. Call for pricing and availability. |

The Captains' Quarters
Bed & Breakfast Inn
|
|||||||
|
The Captains' Quarters Bed and Breakfast,
located at the corner of Church and Broad streets in downtown Oriental, is
the result of the restoration and renovation of a magnificent and gracious
Victorian home built in 1897. This inn is a few minutes' walk to Oriental's
port, marinas, restaurants and shops and it truly reflects Oriental's
century-old tradition of friendly hospitality. There are four rooms and a
suite available, and the owners say when the inn is full, breakfast is
continental — muffins, quiches, juices and coffee. If it is less than full,
you might get vouchers to the Harbor Deli, M&Ms or The Bean. Meet owners
Annick, a native of Paris, and her husband, Roy, originally from Boston. Roy
lived in Europe for 26 years where he was a CEO in the hospitality industry.
The couple have brought their hospitality expertise to Oriental to create a
pleasant, relaxed stay for guests from around the world. It makes for
multi-lingual discourse and multi-national fun. |

The Cartwright House Fireplaces adorn all the beautifully
appointed rooms in Oriental's historic bed and breakfast, The Cartwright
House. Conveniently located with a view of the Neuse River and within
strolling distance to all of the town, the inn hosts many weddings and local
social events. On-site innkeepers Debbie and Durl Evans provide full
breakfasts on the porch or in the dining room. If you have to stay
connected, wireless Internet is available throughout the inn, but the kayaks
and bikes might entice you to relax and enjoy "Oriental time."
The Cartwright House is a member of the N.C. Bed and Breakfast Association. |

The Inn at Oriental Early in its history, this inn was a rooming house for
teachers who taught school in the old brick buildings that still stand
across the street (they're now condominiums). Marie and Hugh Grady have
refurbished and added to this wonderful 1850s building, resulting in 12
bright rooms, all of which have private baths, cable televisions, Internet
access and either queen- or king-size beds. One room has an in-room
kitchenette, and an "artist's loft" is furnished with one queen, one double
and a twin-size bed. Furnishings are comfortable pieces of everything —
antiques, reproductions, one-of-a-kind wall hangings and bed coverings.
Colorful, imaginative motifs vary from room to room. Come morning, guests
are served at individual tables in the large dining room. The Gradys offer a
full American breakfast, allowing guests to choose from many favorite
breakfast items. Hugh and Marie are always prepared to handle any guest's
special dietary needs. Guests may also dine in the gardens. The Inn at
Oriental is open year round. |
