Around New Bern

Outside of the historic district, New Bern has several shopping centers and one mall. The stores we mention in this chapter are by no means all there is to New Bern shopping; we've chosen ones throughout the area to give you an idea of what's available.

As you bear west on U.S. Highway 70, the second exit after the Historic District is the U.S. Highway 17 exit. In New Bern, U.S. 17 is named Dr. M. L. King Jr. Boulevard. Many stores and shopping centers are found on King Boulevard, which runs north to south. Twin Rivers Mall is on King, at the end of the U.S. 17 exit from U.S. 70. Anchor stores Belk and JCPenney have outside entrances. Inside, shoppers have access to about 30 stores, ranging from a video arcade, electronics boutique and pizzeria to jewelry shops and shoe stores. Across King Boulevard from Twin Rivers Mall is Rivertowne Square, anchored by Books-A-Million, Goody's Family Clothing and Wal-Mart. Continue south along King Boulevard to the intersection of McCarthy Boulevard, and you'll find Staples, Target and New River Pottery.MH 02-01-08
