For the last 31 years, Colonial Capital Humane Society has served Craven County. This small humane society operates with the support of volunteers. This group does not have a shelter; instead the dogs and cats offered for adoption are in foster homes. Spay-neuter clinics are also conducted. Colonial Capital seeks people to adopt and foster animals, as well as to help with fund-raisers.MH 06-15-09
 

Safe Harbor Farm

Safe Harbor Farm is a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and cats and sponsors kindness clinics for caretakers of needy animals. Clinics include low-cost spay-neuter clinics run entirely by volunteers and donations. Those eligible include low-income families, families with three or more pets, and certified rescue groups. The group also monitors colonies of cats and offers vaccine clinics and heartworm clinics. Donations are always needed.MH 06-15-09

The New Bern waterfront and historic district are wonderful places to explore with your four-legged friend on a leash. Please be aware that these areas require you to clean up after your pets.
