Kites Unlimited and Bird Stuff Kites Unlimited is a great store to explore whether you
are a kid or an adult. The store sponsors kite-flying events at Fort
Macon State Park, and everyone is invited to join in the fun each
Sundays at 10 AM. Bring a kite because you'll want to try the things you
see after the demonstrations, or you can just watch. For truly
competitive kite fliers, the Carolina Kite Fest at A Place at the Beach
Resort in October is also sponsored by Kites Unlimited (see our
Annual Events chapter). Kites Unlimited has added Bird Stuff to the
store, offering feeders, seeds, houses and more. Mystery Boat Tours What kid wouldn't want to hunt treasure on the coast?

has provided environmental education programs for kids and for adults. The
programs focus on coastal habitats and are highlighted by trips to barrier
island beaches, maritime forests, salt marshes and tidal flats. In the past
there have been trawling trips aboard a research vessel, bird watching,
fossil hunts and kayak trips. All museum trips are guided. There is a charge
for these fun trips, but it is worth it. North Carolina Seafood Festival Kids have plenty to do during the N.C. Seafood Festival.
Young anglers can fish in Atlantic Beach as part of the All Kids' Fishing
Classic. Prizes are awarded for the largest of any kind of fish caught, and
each angler goes home with a prize. On Saturday during festival, SasSea's
Island Playground is jumping with hands-on activities for kids only. Shade
trees, a beautiful gazebo and a playground set the backdrop for the fun.
With face painting, sidewalk chalk designs, jump rope and story telling,
this is a great place for kids and their parents during the festival.
Sea Of Dreams This imaginative public
playground, designed with input from the kids who are now enjoying it, was
constructed by nearly 200 residents of Carteret County about eight years
ago. Walk through the entry towers and encounter a maze that sends kids ages
3 and younger in one direction and the older ones in another. Inside, there
are slides, swings, ladders, spring bridges, a balance beam, a boat, a race
car and so much more that it keeps the parking area full every day. Kids
younger than 10 must have an adult with them. Groups of 10 kids or more may
reserve time to use the playground.
