HospitalsCarteret
General Hospital Carteret General Hospital is a 135-bed, not-for-profit community hospital serving eastern North Carolina. With commitment to excellence and advanced technology, the hospital offers educational and excellence programs that enhance its specialty services to a level that you would expect at larger facilities. Since opening its doors in July 1967, Carteret General has grown from a small organization to a full-service hospital. The physicians and staff are among the finest healthcare providers in eastern Carolina. As the second-largest employer in Carteret County with 1,100 employees, the hospital has remained committed to improving the community's health. In addition, the hospital works with 65 active physicians and many consulting physicians to meet the community's growing healthcare needs. Educational programs are available for total joint and spine orthopedic surgery, heart failure, stroke, diabetes care and breast cancer care. Several of the hospital's excellence programs have been recognized for the commitment to quality patient care. The Carolinas Center for Joint & Spine surgery received the Ralph E. Snyder Innovator Award for Total Joint. The Cancer Clinic provides cutting-edge medical oncology, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for cancer patients in Carteret County. Breast Cancer services include digital mammography, MRI Breast Coil and Breast Excellence Program. facility provides a full complement of inpatient and outpatient
services for its tri-county service area. Specialized care areas

health, women's and pediatric care. The hospital's centers of
excellence include comprehensive cardiac care, including
leading-edge open heart surgery, and cancer care featuring
state-of-the-art radiation therapy and rehabilitation in a modern,
20-bed facility. Care is prescribed by a medical staff of more than
230 board-certified physicians representing nearly all medical
specialties supported by 1,800 professional employees. The center
provides 24-hour emergency services, including Express Care for
minor illness and injury and outpatient surgery and diagnostic
imaging in free-standing facilities in the thriving McCarthy Square

medical facility that is accredited by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. With more than 100
physicians on its medical staff, Onslow Memorial Hospital provides a
wide range of specialties, including cardiology, (Cardiac Cath Lab),
ENT, family practice, general surgery, orthopedic and pediatric
surgery, internal medicine, OB-GYN, neonatal intensive care,
neurosurgery, pain management, urology, a heartburn center and the
Women's Imaging Center. A $45 million surgery center and emergency
room have recently been completed to accommodate the expanding needs
of this community. The addition provides more private rooms and
technology while also allowing the operating rooms to have surgical
navigation systems. Pitt County Memorial Hospital Pitt County Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.3 million people in 29 counties. In an average year, about 37,000 inpatients and more than 228,000 outpatients are treated at Pitt Memorial. In a typical year, more than 3,000 babies are born at the hospital. The clinical staff includes more than 600 physicians and 1,400 nurses. Pitt Memorial is one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina and is the flagship hospital for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina and serves as a teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Pitt Memorial is considered a regional resource for all levels of health services and information. The East Carolina Heart Institute, a
collaboration between Pitt County Memorial Hospital and East
Carolina University, is the first of its kind in North Carolina
devoted exclusively to the prevention and treatment of
cardiovascular diseases at all levels. With the patient at the
center, the Heart Institute employs a fully integrated approach to
cardiovascular care that combines education, research and the
practice of medicine and surgery.

Home Health CareSeveral home healthcare businesses are located in
Morehead City and provide services to patients in the Crystal Coast
area. Each offers varying degrees of nursing, rehabilitation
therapies, medical social work, in-home aides, medical equipment and
supplies that allow patients the opportunity to live comfortably
within their own homes. Many of the services are reimbursable
through insurance, so be sure to ask. For additional providers,
contact your physician. Carteret Home Health Care As a service of Carteret General
Hospital, Carteret Home Health allows patients to receive the
highest quality professional medical care while still being able to
enjoy the familiar surroundings of home. The services they provide
include professional nursing care, physical therapy, speech therapy,
personal care and family aides, and medical social workers. The
service also works with special needs including colostomy care, IV
therapy, tube feedings and diabetic instruction. A 24-hour on-call
nurse is available as well. For terminally ill patients, Carteret
Home Health works closely with Hospice of Carteret County. Hospice of Carteret County Hospice of Carteret County is a not-for-profit
agency that helps terminally ill patients and their families by
providing hope, care and dignity through professional support and
care at home. Hospice's goal is to work with their patients as they
spend their last days in the comfort of their own home, alert and
pain-free, while being surrounded by familiar faces and the things
they love. Hospice offers a team approach that includes all ranges
of care from medical and nursing to social and spiritual.
Life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, Alzheimer's, end-stage heart
and respiratory diseases are addressed with services such as
caregiver teaching, assistance and support; nursing services;
medical social worker and chaplain services; physical, occupational

equipment and supplies; and so much more. Liberty Home Care & Hospice Liberty Home Care is a private business that offers
a range of home-care services aimed at speeding recoveries and
shortening hospital stays. It offers skilled nursing care, physical
and occupational therapies and other services and supplies as
needed. Liberty Home Care has offices throughout North and South
Carolina. Professional Nursing Service Professional Care Service is a
private firm that provides professional aid care. A professional
will assess the needs of the individual in his or her home. Sitters
and certified nurse assistants can then, based on need, assist with
bathing, transfers from bed to chair, meal preparation and light

Physical TherapistsPhysical therapy is often just the thing individuals
need to fully recover from surgery or an injury. Physical therapists
determine the best and most appropriate techniques for their
patients, working to restore movement and function, relieve pain and
prevent further injury. The techniques are varied depending on the

offers courses in therapeutic massage therapy, and often students
provide discount massages as a practicing service. There is nothing
as relaxing as a complete massage from a qualified and knowledgeable
therapist. Whether you select a full-body massage, a back massage or
a foot and hand massage, the results are always worth the time and
