It is always fun to cover the coast — my favorite place. Since 1946, which I shouldn't say because then everyone knows how old I am, Swansboro, Morehead City, Beaufort and New Bern have been places most important in my life and my heart. After all this time, it is amazing to watch these areas I have loved and lived in, grow and (hopefully) improve with the passing years. I would like to thank Molly Harrison, my editor, whose patience and expertise have been greatly appreciated this year. I would also like to thank the Insiders' Guide crew in Wilmington who are always ready to answer a question or e-mail a joke. Thanks to Susan, Matt and Melissa who always answer my questions — dumb or not. You guys are an amazing team. Thank you for letting me be a part.MH 03-12-08

Tabbie Nance

It is my hope that readers will come to know and enjoy the coast of North Carolina as much as I do. After living here 24 years, I continue to discover new places and have new experiences. Rodney Kemp, a Moreheader, shared his contagious love for Carteret County with me through story-telling and his living. My thanks also go to Keith Rittmaster of the Cape Lookout Studies Program who continuously shows and teaches me new things about the coastal waters and islands. My special thanks to Molly for her patience. Thanks also to those who shared information about their businesses either in face-to-face meetings, over the phone, through e-mail or fax. Special thanks to Alan Leary of Century 21, John Duncan of Beaufort Realty, Sharon Garner of Smith & Weil Properties and Greg Keen of Beach House Realty for sharing their real estate expertise with me. Finally, my greatest love and appreciation are extended to my parents, Buddy and Tabbie Nance, who taught me by example to explore and be a lifelong learner, and to my sister, Miriam Lewis, and her family for always providing me with love and support in this venture and in all those I undertake.TN 03-18-08
