Upstate Tips
Unless
otherwise instructed, play "real" golf--play the ball where it
lies.
Early
in the morning or late in the evening are often the best times to see the
subtleties in a golf course, as shadows highlight the contour of greens and
fairways. Many courses offer discounts if you tee off in the late afternoon.
Plus, in the Carolinas anyway, these can be the most comfortable times to
play.
Here's
a drill to help you can those troublesome three-foot putts. On the practice
green, select a hole that lies on a slope, and make a circle of about a
dozen balls all the way around it. Work your way around the circle making
putts, and start over if you miss one. You'll face putts of every angle, and
that tester on 17 should fall a little easier.
