Low Country Tips
Plan
your shot quickly, and select the club for your next shot while approaching
your ball. If you're riding a cart but must walk across the fairway to your
ball, take a couple of clubs with you so you'll be sure to have the one you
want in hand. Ready golf is the only good etiquette.
Good
footing is important when hitting from a bunker. Twist your feet into the
sand until you're in over the soles of your shoes to prevent slipping as you
blast the ball out.
Take
your practice swings while others in your group are hitting, so when your spot
comes you are ready to play.
Look
for a lost ball a maximum of three minutes per group per hole. The ball can
be replaced, but the time you might hold up the entire field cannot.
Always
keep an extra ball, tees and ball marker in your pocket. You might need one
when you'd least expect it.
When
you're lining up a long putt and one of your partners is tending the pin,
have him stand to the uphill side of the hole. That way, you can use his
feet at targets as you try to drop the ball down into the cup.
If
you putt aggressively and roll a putt past the hole, watch your ball as it
comes to a stop. Watching it will give you an idea of the line of your putt
coming back.
Because
summers are so hot in the Carolinas, greenskeepers let the greens grow out a
little to keep the grass from burning. Thus, you'll find that our greens are
fastest in spring and fall.
