Triangle Tips
Once
or twice a year, enter a tournament and play tournament rules. You'll get a
sense of what it's like to play under some pressure, and you'll have to get
by without "improving your lie" any.
At
least once a year, spend a day at a pro golf tournament. You might want to
follow a golfer whose play you enjoy. Or, camp out next to a reachable par 5
and watch the pros demonstrate their short game prowess. Either way, your
bound to absorb some tips on what makes these players so good.
If
you're playing a course for the first time, or if you're on a particularly
difficult course, don't be afraid to play from the mid-front tees. You won't
have to use your driver quite as often and you'll probably enjoy your day a
lot more.
If
a thunderstorm approaches, get off the course. North Carolina ranks second
only to Florida in the number of deaths caused by lightning. Don't just seek
shelter under a tree -- get indoors.
Many
professional golfers are very happy to score par on a hole. They shoot for
the middle of the fairways and greens to avoid trouble and big numbers, then
take the birdie opportunities as they come. Don't try to force a low
score--play within your limits.
