spacer.gif (818 bytes)The Outer Banks of North Carolina conjure images of big sand dunes, fishing villages, hammocks, hang-gliding, windsurfing and glorious, relaxing family vacations. The area is also a secret golf paradise. Popular and upscale as well as mid-range courses here offer excellent golfing experiences, and the surrounding beach communities offer everything else for a complete vacation.

The Outer Banks north of Oregon Inlet include Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head; Roanoke Island to the west includes Manteo and Wanchese; and to the south are Hatteras and Ocracoke islands. All of the golf courses are easily accessible from Manteo, Duck, Southern Shores, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk or Nags Head. Then head south to Hatteras or Ocracoke for some easy days of pure relaxation, maybe with a fishing pole or just a good book.

From Virginia north, the Outer Banks are perhaps the best know and most popular parts of North Carolina. Perhaps that's because much of the Outer Banks are more accessible to Virginians than many in central North Carolina.

The best guidebook to this area, in our humble opinion, is The Insiders' Guide to North Carolina's Outer Banks, available at bookstores or at this web site.
