The authors of The Insiders' Guide to Golf in the Carolinas visited each of the courses written about in this book. Courses were assessed either by playing a round or by riding to survey the layout. Also, interviews with the golf professionals or other staff were important in gathering information about the seasonal variations of the courses. The positive aspects of the courses were stressed in the belief that there's something commendable about every golf course, no matter how it may appear upon first inspection. It was physically impossible to review every public-access golf course in North and South Carolina (there are nearly 600!), but we hope this book provides an excellent selection. We certainly tried! Many of the accommodations we recommend at the end of each chapter will include golf in a package for you. Most are suitable for a non-golfing family or traveling companions with other interests (but don't worry--we've kept the recommended accommodations close to your courses for quick access). We suggest restaurants suitable for any of the golfers we know, and we offer a medley of family activities in every location. Golf can be combined easily with other interests, and much is available to every visitor to the Carolinas. Accommodations should be booked in advance to ensure availability, and be sure to inquire about golf packages, senior citizen discounts or other specials based on your length of stay. When calling for reservations, be sure to ask for a clarification of the lodging's policy regarding cancellations. Unless otherwise noted, all accommodations accept most major credit cards. Below are the price codes for accommodations and restaurants used in these chapters.
